What Is EdgeCut on a Robot Mower?
Share
EdgeCut is Husqvarna’s system for reducing the strip of uncut grass a robot mower normally leaves beside lawn borders.
Why do robot mowers leave an edge?
The main cutting disc sits safely underneath the mower body. That is good for safety, but it means the blades cannot reach right to a wall, fence or raised border. Traditional robot mowers therefore leave a narrow strip that occasionally needs trimming.
How does EdgeCut work?
EdgeCut models add a second, smaller cutting disc positioned closer to the rear edge of the mower. When the mower follows suitable lawn boundaries, that extra disc reaches closer to the border than the central cutting system can.
Does EdgeCut eliminate trimming completely?
No — and we would be suspicious of anyone promising that it does.
The result depends on the shape and construction of the lawn edge. Flush paving edges are easier than vertical walls, deep corners or irregular borders. EdgeCut is best thought of as a feature that significantly reduces follow-up trimming rather than removing it in every garden.
Which current models have EdgeCut?
In the current RMS domestic range, EdgeCut is fitted to the 305E NERA, 405VE NERA, 310E NERA and 410VE NERA.
EdgeCut versus AI vision
They solve different problems. EdgeCut is about the finish at the lawn border. AI vision is about recognising obstacles and supporting navigation. The 405VE and 410VE combine both; the 305E and 310E give you EdgeCut without the premium vision hardware.
Is EdgeCut worth paying for?
If reducing strimming is one of the main reasons you want a robot mower, it is a genuinely useful feature. If your lawn already has wide flush mowing strips around the perimeter, it may matter less.
