Help & Advice

Buying a robot mower should not require a degree in satellite positioning. This is the starting point for practical buying advice, installation help, ownership guides and parts support from Robot Mower Shop and the G.mow specialist team behind it.

If you are still deciding what to buy, start here. Lawn size matters, but so do slopes, tree cover, separate lawn areas, connectivity and how much edge trimming you want to avoid.

Quick answers

Do I need a boundary wire?

Not necessarily. Many current models can use virtual boundaries with Husqvarna EPOS. Some compatible NERA machines can also use a physical boundary wire or a hybrid approach where that better suits the site.

Will wire-free mowing work with trees?

Often yes. The important factor is usable sky visibility across the lawn rather than simply whether trees exist. Buildings, dense canopy and narrow passages can make positioning more challenging, so complicated gardens are worth checking before purchase.

What if my outdoor Wi-Fi is poor?

Poor Wi-Fi does not automatically rule out a robot mower or an EPOS installation. Connectivity requirements vary by model and positioning method, and some machines offer cellular or local reference-station options.

What is EdgeCut?

EdgeCut uses an additional cutting disc positioned to reach closer to lawn borders, reducing the amount of follow-up trimming needed around many edges.

How often should I change the blades?

There is no single interval for every garden. Inspect them regularly and replace them when the cutting edges are worn, chipped or damaged. Sharp blades give a cleaner finish.

Can robot mowers handle slopes?

Yes, but capability varies considerably by model. The steepest section and the condition of the ground matter more than the average gradient of the whole garden.

Still not sure?

Send us a few details about the lawn — approximate area, slopes, trees/buildings and any separate sections — and we can help narrow it down.
