Husqvarna Automower 450V NERA for professional robot mower installation

Robot Mower Installation: DIY or Professional Installation?

Modern robot mowers are easier to install than ever, particularly wire-free models, but “no boundary wire” does not mean “nothing to think about”. A good installation is mostly about choosing the right mower, charging-station position, positioning method and map for the garden.

Can you install a robot mower yourself?

Yes. For a straightforward lawn, many owners can install a current Automower themselves. A wire-free EPOS installation normally involves positioning and connecting the charging station, pairing the mower with Automower Connect, setting up the positioning system and creating virtual work areas and boundaries in the app.

What makes an installation difficult?

Multiple lawn areas, narrow passages, steep banks, buildings close to lawn edges, heavy tree cover and patchy internet coverage can all make the planning more important. None automatically rules out a robot mower, but they can change the best model or installation method.

What about a physical boundary wire?

Wired installations remain a dependable option and can still make sense on gardens where satellite visibility is consistently difficult. They take more physical work to install because the boundary and guide wires need to be planned and laid correctly.

Are there setups that need dealer involvement?

Yes. Requirements vary by model and positioning method. One current example is a local reference-station installation for Automower 308V or 312V, which Husqvarna specifies should be installed by a dealer. That is separate from using those mowers with EPOS via Husqvarna Cloud.

Why pay for installation?

The main benefit is not avoiding a few taps in an app. It is having somebody assess the site, choose sensible charging and navigation positions, create the work areas and leave the machine operating properly rather than learning by trial and error.
