Husqvarna Automower 308V with AI Vision

Husqvarna AI Vision Explained: What Does the Camera Actually Do?

AI Vision is one of the biggest changes in the latest generation of Husqvarna robotic mowers. Selected models use a front-facing camera and onboard AI to detect objects, support navigation and make the mower more aware of what is happening around it.

It is more than simple obstacle detection

The camera detects objects on the lawn in real time so the mower can slow down, avoid them or adjust its route rather than simply relying on contact with an obstacle.

Daytime vision and day-and-night vision

The current Husqvarna range uses two levels of AI vision. Automower Aspire R6V, 308V and 312V use daytime vision: the mower can still mow at night if scheduled, but the camera-based AI Vision features are not active in darkness.

Automower 405VE NERA, 410VE NERA, 430V NERA and 450V NERA use an infrared camera system designed to provide AI Vision features during both daytime and nighttime operation.

AI Vision also helps wire-free mowing

On compatible models, vision technology works alongside EPOS satellite navigation. If the satellite signal becomes temporarily weak or unavailable, the camera can help the mower confirm that it is still on grass and continue for a limited distance while it looks to recover the signal.

This is particularly useful around trees, buildings and other areas where satellite visibility can be more difficult, although the camera does not make every unsuitable garden automatically suitable for wire-free mowing.

Boundary Assist on the VE and V models

405VE NERA, 410VE NERA, 430V NERA and 450V NERA also support Boundary Assist. The camera looks for the physical edge of the grass near the virtual boundary and can adjust the turning point to mow more closely to lawn edges while reducing the risk of getting stuck.

What about privacy?

Husqvarna states that all AI Vision image processing happens locally on the mower. Images are processed in real time and are not stored, transmitted or shared.

Do you actually need AI Vision?

Not necessarily. A simple, open lawn with few obstacles can still be maintained very well by a non-vision mower. AI Vision earns its keep on busier or more complicated gardens where obstacle avoidance, changing conditions or difficult positioning areas are more likely to matter.
